Fair Meals Direct

Fair Meals Direct is a Meals on Wheels service in Carlisle, Penrith & surrounding areas. We use fresh, locally sourced food to make healthy, hearty meals which are delivered direct to your door, providing a vital service for people who struggle to make meals for themselves.

Fair Meals Direct is a not-for-profit scheme started up in April 2014, when it took over from Cumbria County Council’s ‘Meals on Wheels’ service.

All meals are prepared using produce sourced from within a 30-mile radius of Carlisle – reducing food miles, helping the environment, helping to ensure a market for local food producers and providing a boost to the Cumbrian economy.

The meals are prepared by a professional chef based at the Water Street family accommodation in Carlisle, from where they are delivered to homes across the city by a team of volunteers.

Anyone wishing to sign up to Fair Meals Direct will be given a menu each week, from which they can simply select the meals they would like to order. The food is seasonal, menus are changed regularly, vegetarian options are available and specific dietary requirements can be catered for. Meals are available from Monday to Friday – however, people are not required to order food every day.

If you, or someone you know, would like to order food through Fair Meals Direct, please contact us using the details below. If you would like to join our team of volunteer drivers and help deliver food to some of our city’s most vulnerable people, we’d also love to hear from you – full training will be given and all expenses paid.
